Agnes De Langeac

Béatifiée il y a dix ans par le pape Jean-Paul II, Agnès de Langeac est née au Puy-en-Velay en 1602. Très jeune, elle est initiée à la dévotion puis à l'oraison par des maîtres successifs (son maître d'école, puis un jésuite et un dominicain). Elle devient moniale dominicaine en 1623 au monastère de Langeac (encore existant) où elle sera maîtresse des novices et prieure. Elle rencontre Monsieur Olier – fondateur de la Compagnie de Saint-Sulpice – pour lequel, sans le connaître, elle a été inspirée de prier. Elle meurt à l'âge de trente-deux ans. Agnès de Langeac n'a rien écrit. C'est sa vie qui livre un enseignement. Trois lignes de force s'en dégagent : les grâces reçues dès l'enfance, la vie d'oraison, l'attrait pour le mystère de l'agonie du Christ. Deux soucis apostoliques l'animent : le soutien aux femmes qui devaient accoucher et la formation des prêtres, autrement dit, par une formule qui peut rassembler ces deux préoccupations, le souci de la vie en ses commencements ! Ce colloque, qui s'est tenu à Langeac du 15 au 17 octobre 2004 et qui a rassemblé une quinzaine de spécialistes (en particulier dominicains et sulpiciens), avait un double objectif : étudier de manière précise, d'un point de vue historique, littéraire et spirituel, les manuscrits des premiers témoins de la vie d'Agnès (le manuscrit du père Panassière publié aux Éd. du Cerf en 1994 et celui du père Boyre, publié chez Arfuyen en 2005) et présenter les réalisations actuelles de formation spirituelle, marquées par l'influence d'Agnès de Langeac. -- Beatified ten years ago by Pope John-Paul II, Agnès de Langeac was born in Puy-en-Velay in 1602. When she was still very young, she was initiated to devotion then to prayer by her successive teachers (in school, then by a Jesuit and a Dominican). She became a Dominican nun in 1623 at the monastery in Langeac (which still exists) where she was in charge of the novices before becoming prioress. She met Monsieur Olier – founder of the Compagnie de Saint-Sulpice – for whom she felt inspired to pray. She died at the age of thirty-two. Agnès de Langeac did not write. Her life is her lesson. Three lines of strength stand out: the grace she received during childhood, a life of prayer, her fascination for the mystery of the agony of Christ. She had two apostolic missions: to support women who had to give birth and the training of priests, in other words, if we assemble the two preoccupations, a concern for life in its beginnings! This colloquium, which took place at Langeac from 15 -17 October, 2004, assembled fifteen specialists (mostly Dominicans and Sulpiciens). It had two aims: to study, from the historical, literary and spiritual point of view, the first written testimonies of Agnes's life (the manuscript of Father Panassière published by Ed. du Cerf in 1994 and that of Father Boyre, published by Arfuyen in 2005) and to present today's realisations for spiritual training, influenced by Agnès de Langeac.
